TripleTalk user guide
Welcome to TripleTalk! It's an app that helps you learn words and phrases in foreign languages. You build your own lessons from flashcards, and TripleTalk AI adds the translations, example sentences and pronunciation recordings. The app keeps track of when to bring each word back, so you spend less time studying and remember for longer.
This guide walks you through the app step by step: from creating an account, through your first lesson and your first study session, all the way to settings. Read it from start to finish or jump straight to the topic you need.

01Why TripleTalk
With TripleTalk you learn words faster, and you never have to copy them out by hand.
- Take a photo of a textbook page or paste some text and the app turns it into flashcards. You just pick the ones you want to learn.
- When you add a flashcard yourself, you type a single word. TripleTalk adds the translation, an example sentence and the pronunciation for you.
- You can listen to every word and every sentence, spoken in a natural voice.
- After each flashcard you mark how well you remembered it. Hard words come back more often and easy ones less often, so you don't waste time on what you already know.
- You can listen to a lesson like a podcast: on a walk, in the car or on the bus, without looking at the screen.
- With Premium you learn two languages at once on the same flashcards, for example English and German with hints in Polish.
- The Dashboard shows at a glance how many words you already know and which lessons are waiting for a review.
- A teacher can prepare lessons for their classes, and students use them to study for tests.
02Getting started
Creating an account and signing in
First, create an account. It keeps your lessons, progress and purchases safe, and they'll be waiting for you on any other device too.
There are three ways to sign in: with an email address and password, with your Google account or with Apple (Sign in with Apple).
If you choose email, check your inbox afterwards: we'll send you a message with a confirmation link. The password must be 8 to 30 characters long and include a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a digit and a special character. If you forget your password, tap "Forgot password?" and we'll send you a link to set a new one.
Introduction
The first time you open the app, it shows you how it works in a few steps and asks you to make a few choices:
- Your flashcard language, which is your base language, for example English. Hints and translations appear in this language.
- The language you want to learn, for example Spanish. You can add a second learning language later in settings.
- Your learning pace: intensive or balanced. Don't overthink it, the difference is explained in section 7.
- Consents: accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. You can't get started without them.
You can change everything except the consents in settings later.
Welcome gift
To get you started, every new account receives a one-time gift: a free Premium trial with full access to Premium features and a set of free TripleTalk AI flashcards. With them you can start creating flashcards from photos and with AI help right away. The free period doesn't renew on its own and doesn't turn into a paid subscription.
You'll find the length of the trial and the number of free flashcards in the Terms of Service. The welcome gift is available once per person and device. When it ends, you keep using the basic features and all your unused TripleTalk AI flashcards.
03Dashboard
The Dashboard is the first screen you see when you open the app. The most important thing on it is the "Continue learning" button. Tap it and you go straight to a lesson with flashcards due for review. When everything is reviewed, the app suggests picking another lesson.
The Dashboard also shows your progress:
- how many lessons are in progress,
- how many lessons you've completed,
- how many flashcards were reviewed this week,
- how many flashcards are confirmed, meaning how many words you already know.
The "Learning growth" chart shows how your learning went over the last 7 days.
Both your own lessons and lessons from a teacher in School count towards these stats.
04Lessons
A lesson is a set of flashcards on one topic, such as "Travel" or "Business English". Everything starts with a lesson, so create your first one.
Creating a lesson
Go to the Lessons screen, tap "Add lesson" and enter a name. TripleTalk picks a matching icon for you. A new lesson is empty, so the next step is to add flashcards to it (see section 5).
The lesson tile
Each lesson has its own tile in the list. At a glance it shows how many flashcards the lesson has, how many are due for review and when the next review is. Sometimes you'll also see a label on the tile:
- Not started: learning in this lesson hasn't begun yet.
- Mastered: you know every flashcard and none is waiting for a review right now.
- Preparing: TripleTalk AI is finishing some flashcards or recordings. Learning and listening become available once all flashcards are ready. This usually takes from a few seconds to a few minutes.
- Updating: the app is downloading the lesson's recordings. It will open in a moment.
Organising lessons
As your lessons grow, it's easy to keep them tidy:
- Sort them by date added, name, learning level, last learning or next review date, ascending or descending.
- Swipe a tile to the right and the lesson moves to the archive. Switch the filter to "Archived" to find it there and restore it whenever you like.
- Swipe a tile to the left to delete the lesson.
- To rename a lesson or reset its progress, open the lesson.
The lesson screen
When you open a lesson, quick actions are at hand:
- Audio: listen to the lesson (more in section 8),
- Search: find a specific flashcard,
- Sort: put the flashcards in the order you want,
- View: switch between list view and compact view.
05Adding flashcards
Now that you have a lesson, it's time to add some words. Open the lesson and tap "Add flashcards". There are four ways to do it.
Take a text photo
This is the fastest way when your words are on paper. Take a clear photo of a textbook page, notes, a menu or any other text. TripleTalk AI recognises its language, picks out the words and shows you a list to approve.
Tick the words you want to learn (or just tap "Select all") and tap "Create flashcards". As you go, you can see how many words were found, how many are new, how many are selected and how many TripleTalk AI flashcards you have available. Words that are already in the lesson are marked as duplicates, so you won't add them twice.
Analysing a photo can take a moment, but you don't have to wait for it. Go back to the lesson, and you'll find the photo in "Pending flashcards": first with the status "Processing", then "Ready to review".
Add from gallery
Already have a photo or a screenshot with words on it? Pick it from your phone's gallery. Everything else works just like a camera photo.
Paste text
Got words in an article, your notes, an email or a job description? Copy the text and paste it into the app. TripleTalk AI picks out the words and shows you a list to approve, just like with a photo.
Add manually
Want to add a single word? Choose the language you're typing in and enter a word or phrase. If you like, add your own example sentence too.
One word in one language is enough. TripleTalk AI fills in the rest: the translation, an example, grammar and pronunciation. If you turn on "TripleTalk AI correction" in settings, AI also fixes any mistakes in what you type.
What it costs
Every flashcard created with AI uses 1 TripleTalk AI flashcard from your balance. It doesn't matter whether you add it by hand or from a photo, to your own lesson or to a School lesson. If a flashcard can't be prepared, it goes back to your balance. You can check how many you have left in More › TripleTalk AI flashcards.
06What a flashcard contains
Each flashcard is a complete package for learning one word. On it you'll find:
- the word in your flashcard language and your learning languages,
- an example sentence in each of those languages, so you see the word in context,
- pronunciation recordings for the word and the example,
- grammar: part of speech (noun, verb, adjective) and, for verbs, their forms (infinitive, past tense, participle, and in German also the auxiliary verb),
- your progress: level (new, started, learning, advanced, mastered), number of reviews, how many times the word slipped your mind, and the dates of the last and next review.
Tap a flashcard to see the details. There you can edit the words and examples or play the pronunciation.
Want example sentences that are closer to what you do? Pick your topics in the "Example sentence context" setting, for example business, travel or IT.
07Learning with spaced repetition
How a session works
This is the heart of the app. A study session goes like this:
- Open a lesson and tap "Start". Or just tap "Continue learning" on the Dashboard.
- You see a word. Before you look at the answer, try to recall it.
- Tap "Reveal answer" and check yourself.
- Be honest about how it went:
- Again: the flashcard comes back in a moment,
- Hard: it comes back soon,
- Good: it comes back later,
- Easy: it comes back only after a longer break.
You don't need to plan anything. Words you know well will show up less and less often, and the ones you struggle with will come back sooner. You've finished a lesson when you know every flashcard and none is waiting for a review.
After a session
At the end of a session you'll see one of three messages:
- "Session complete": everything is saved, and the app plans your next reviews for you.
- "Session paused, come back soon": a few tricky words will come back to you in a few hours.
- "Nothing due right now": nothing in this lesson is waiting for you at the moment. Come back later or add new flashcards.
You can stop in the middle of a session. Next time you open the app, it asks whether you'd like to return to it.
Learning pace
How often reviews come back depends on the learning mode you choose in settings:
- Balanced: calmer, less frequent reviews. Good for everyday learning.
- Intensive: more frequent reviews for faster memorising, for example before an exam or a trip.
08Learning by listening (audio)
Audio mode turns a lesson into something you can listen to. The app plays the words and example sentences in all your languages one after another, with a short pause in between. It's a great way to review on a walk, in the car or at the gym.
Start it with the "Audio" button in a lesson or "Play lesson audio". If listening was stopped earlier, you can continue or start over.
You can adjust playback in More › Audio playback:
- which flashcards: all flashcards in the lesson or only unmastered ones,
- pause between items: 0.5 s, 1 s or 1.5 s,
- speed: 0.75×, 1× or 1.25×,
- flashcard order: in order or shuffled.
Background listening
Feel free to leave the app or lock the screen, and playback keeps going. On the lock screen you see the current sentence, the lesson name, the time and progress of the whole lesson, and buttons for the previous and next sentence.
09Collections
Don't want to build lessons from scratch? Have a look at the Collections tab. It offers ready-made flashcard sets prepared by TripleTalk. Pick a set and it appears in your list as a new lesson.
- You can filter collections by topic, for example daily, business, travel, basics, verbs.
- Collections marked Free are available to everyone, and those marked Premium need a subscription.
- A lesson from a collection takes the collection's name in your app language. You can't add your own flashcards to it.
10School: learning in a class
School is a separate tab for learning in a class. A teacher prepares lessons with flashcards and recordings there, and students learn from them on their own phones.
The first time you open it, you choose a role: Student or Teacher. An account can have only one role, and the only way to change it is to reset your School settings.
Student
- Choose the Student role and enter your first name. You also confirm that you are at least 16 or have a parent's or guardian's consent.
- You get your own ID in the format
XXXX-XXXX. Copy it or send it to your teacher so they can invite you to a class. - When an invitation arrives, accept or decline it. If you don't want any more invitations from that person, you can also block them.
- In "My classes" you'll find the lessons from your teacher and the date they're available until.
- Learn by marking "Know" or "Don't know", and listen to the pronunciation. If you want to go through a lesson again from the start, reset your progress.
Every "Know" in a School lesson counts towards your stats on the Dashboard. You can leave a class at any time.
Your teacher only sees your first name and whether you've started a lesson. They don't know which flashcards you know. Students can't see each other, and School has no chat or comments.
Teacher
- The Teacher role requires Premium. Once you choose it, enter the name students will see, for example "Mrs Smith".
- Create a class, for example "English 3B".
- Add students by their ID. Each of them gets an invitation and decides whether to join. The student list shows who has accepted. If an invitation expires, you can send it again.
- Create a lesson just like your own: enter a title, the flashcard language and the learning language, then add flashcards by hand or from a photo. TripleTalk AI prepares the translations, examples and recordings, and the lesson gets a matching icon.
- Before you share a lesson, go through it with "Preview cards" or "Listen".
- Finally, choose one or more classes and the period when the lesson should be available to them.
Worth remembering
- Once a lesson has been shared, it can no longer be edited, so check it carefully beforehand. You can still share it with more classes or change the availability dates for a given class.
- You share a lesson with a given class only once. To change the dates, change the availability of the existing share.
- In each class you see Active, Scheduled and Ended lessons, plus a "Started: X of Y students" stat.
- Move lessons you no longer need to the Archive. They disappear from classes and students' progress in them is deleted, but the flashcards and recordings stay. From the archive you can restore a lesson (it becomes editable and shareable again, for example next school year) or delete it for good.
- Flashcards in School lessons use the same TripleTalk AI flashcard balance as your own lessons.
School settings
In More › School settings you'll find:
- Invitations (student): decide whether teachers can invite you to classes.
- Blocked teachers (student): the list of teachers you've blocked, where you can unblock them.
- Reset School settings:
- a student leaves all classes, and their progress, name and role are removed (the ID stays the same),
- a teacher permanently deletes all their classes and lessons, and students lose access to them. This cannot be undone.
12Settings
All settings are in the More tab. Changes are saved to your account, so they apply on your other devices too.
Profile
Your profile is at the top of the screen. From here you can open Account data (more in section 13).

Good to know
- Adding a second learning language doesn't mean rebuilding your lessons. TripleTalk prepares the translations and recordings in the new language across all your lessons on its own. Meanwhile, lessons may show the "Preparing" label.
- Note: changing the learning language on a free account resets your progress in all lessons, including archived ones.
School
If you use School, this is where you'll find its settings. As a student, you can also turn class invitations on or off here. You can read more about School in section 10.
Help
This is where you can write to us when something isn't working or you have an idea for an improvement. You can read more in section 14. At the bottom of the screen you'll also find the app version number, which is handy when you report a bug.
13Account and privacy
Account data
In More › Account data you can check which email address your account uses and whether that address is verified. If you sign in with Apple, your email address may be hidden.
If your account uses an email and password, you can also change the address here (a confirmation link is sent to the new address) or reset your password. If you sign in with Google or Apple, you change your address and password in your Google or Apple account.
Devices
Under Account data › Devices you'll see the devices where you use your account and when they were last used. If you lose your phone, for example, you can sign it out from here.
You can use one account on several devices, such as a phone and a tablet, and your lessons and progress will be the same on all of them. The number of devices is limited (see the Terms of Service). When you sign in on another one, the app signs out the device that hasn't been used for the longest time and shows a message on it. To use it again, just sign in.
Signing out and deleting your account
Signing out doesn't delete anything. When you sign in again, everything will be right where you left it.
Deleting your account can't be undone. You'll lose all your lessons, flashcards and progress, and we'll also delete the photos you sent to TripleTalk AI. If you have Premium, remember to cancel your subscription in the App Store or Google Play. Deleting your account won't do that for you.
How we look after your data
We only collect what the app needs to work. Photos you send to TripleTalk AI are used only to prepare flashcards, and we delete them together with the lesson or your account. Payments are handled by the App Store or Google Play, so we don't store your billing details.
You can read more in the Privacy Policy.
14Help and contact
Something isn't working, you have an idea for a new feature or you just want to tell us something? Write to us right from the app.
In More › Send Feedback:
- choose a category: Bug, Improvement, Feature Request or Other,
- enter a title and a description,
- if you like, attach a screenshot from your gallery.
We read every message.
15Frequently asked questions
Is TripleTalk free?
Yes. On a free account you can create your own lessons, learn one language, and use reviews and free collections. To create flashcards with AI you need TripleTalk AI flashcards. You get a set number of them when you start, and you can buy more in a pack. Premium extends what the app can do.
What's the difference between Premium and AI packs?
Premium is a subscription that unlocks features, for example two languages, more lessons, collections, background listening, reminders and the teacher role. AI packs are a one-time purchase of flashcards you create with TripleTalk AI.
What happens to my lessons when Premium ends?
Nothing disappears. Your lessons, flashcards and progress stay in your account, and Premium features come back when you renew.
Why does a lesson say "Preparing"?
TripleTalk AI is finishing translations or recordings. This usually takes from a few seconds to a few minutes. You can start learning once all flashcards are ready.
Do I lose a TripleTalk AI flashcard if something goes wrong?
No. If a flashcard can't be prepared, your balance isn't reduced.
Do students pay for School?
No. The student role is completely free. Only the teacher needs Premium.
Can I use TripleTalk on more than one device?
Yes. Sign in to the same account, and your lessons, progress and settings will be available on every device. The number of devices signed in at the same time is limited, and you'll find the list under Account data.
Why did the app sign me out?
Usually because your account was signed in on another device, or this device was signed out from Account data on another phone. Sign in again. If you don't know who is using your account, check the device list and change your password.
